How to Repair Carpet

The carpet is probably one of the most expensive furnishing in our house. Even though you regularly clean and try your best to maintain it over time it gets old. There will be worn out area that’s too conspicuous to ignore. Buying a new carpet would be a great solution but not exactly budget friendly. Instead of buying a new one you can try and repair those worn or stained part of your carpet. If the damage on your carpet is just minor like a small cigarette burn you can probably just cut the fiber using a small scissor, razor blade or a nail cutter. Just make sure you don’t cut it too deep. If the burn is deeper you can replace probably some portion of the fiber. Cut off the burned fiber and then cut some replacement carpet fiber from the not so noticeable area of the carpet. Attach one by one the fiber to the carpet using a clear liquid adhesive. It can be very time consuming and but it will make your carpet look better. If the color of your carpet is already fading you could probably dye it if your carpet is still in good condition. You should call professional help when it comes to this to make sure the process is done correctly. If your carpet is already in bad shape you might want to replace it with a new one. Dents from furniture are also a common damage you will see on a carpet. You can use a steam iron to brush the dented area. Another method is dampen the dented with water using a spray and brush it up with your hands and use hair dryer to dried out the moisture. With the stain you can buy some cleaning agent that can be use to remove the stain from your carpet. If you want to use a more environment friendly carpet cleaner you can use baking soda mix warm water and salt. Apply it to the stain area by means of blotting do not rub it or the stain might spread. After the stain is removed vacuum the area dry. Baking soda is also good in removing bad odor from your carpet. Before you apply any cleaning solution to your carpet make sure to color test it first. If the bleach or solution is too strong it might do more damage to the carpet’s fiber. If your carpet got this really bad looking stain that you could not remove no matter how much soap or cleaning agent you apply on it you might need to replace the whole area. You will need to cut it out and again get some good portion of the carpet from the inconspicuous area and replace the portion you’ve cut out. So that it will not look patchy cut the portion circle or triangle shape. You also have the option to ask help from professional if you are not too certain of your fixing skills especially if the damage is quite severe.
